BIOGRAPHIES
Geshe Jamyang Chozin Rinpoche was born in Tibet in 1967. He became a novice monk at the age of 14 at his birthplace in western Tibet. At age 18 Jamyang Chozin Rinpoche escaped to India and subsequently took the full Bhiksu ordination when he was 19 years old. Geshe Jamyang Chozin Rinpoche is a highly qualified teacher whose training has met the highest level of standards possible at Gaden Jangtse Monastic University. He was awarded the degree of Lharampa Geshe by Gaden Jangtse Monastery. He then took his tantric training at Guymed Tantric College and obtained the degree of Ngarampa Geshe from there. Jamyang Chozin is not only a monk with high scholastic achievement on his own merit, but a few years after he came to India he was also identified as the reincarnation of a past Tibetan Abbot, Kalsang Gyatso, thus his title of Rinpoche.
Geshe Tenzin Sherap, our current resident teacher, was born in India and has studied at Namgyal Monastery, Gaden Jangtse Monastery and Gyumey Tantric University, and holds a Lharampa Geshe degree. Geshe Sherap was one of the debate teachers at Gaden Jangtse Monastery. He also taught at Namgyal Monastery, and has many students at both institutes. Geshe-la is capable of giving teachings on the subtlest levels of Buddhist philosophy.
Geshe Gedun Samdup joined Gaden Jangtse Monastery in 1971, and achieved the degree of Geshe Lharampa. He was the main resident teacher at our center from 2002-2004. He tought various courses, led discussion groups, and met with students to help guide their Dharma practice. Geshe-la is currently spending most of his time working at projects at the Monastery in India, and can only visit Los Angeles for few months of the year.
Venerable Yeshi Dorjee received his Ngagrampa degree from Gyumey Tantric University. He is a master thangka painter and has completed a series of thangkas of the Jataka tales for Gaden and Gyumey Monasteries. He has been living in southern California since 1997 and is
an accomplished teacher. In the past, he has taught many introductory courses at our center.
