His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday Celebration Potluck

Sunday 7/5 from 10:00 am – 12 noon (PDT)
We will offer long life prayers in celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso’s 91st birthday, followed by a potluck lunch. Please bring some food to share like a vegetarian dish, fruit, or dessert, etc.

Tibetan Buddhists believe the Dalai Lamas are manifestations of Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who choose to be reborn to help all living beings achieve liberation.

Guru Puja with Tsok

Friday 7/10 and 7/24 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm (PDT)
Guru Puja (also known as Lama Chopa) encapsulates the essence of the Buddha’s teachings. In this practice we make offerings and supplicate for blessings on our Dharma path from the spiritual masters who have come before us.

Feel free to bring a tsok offering such as fruit, baked goods, or other individually wrapped food. For those students who do not have time to prepare offerings for tsok, monetary offerings can be made for the Center to prepare on your behalf.

Chökhor Düchen Holy Day - Buddha’s First Teaching

Saturday 7/18 – All Day
Chökhor Düchen, the “Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma,” is one of the four major Buddhist holy days. It commemorates Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teaching after enlightenment, when he introduced the Four Noble Truths, beginning the tradition of Buddhist teachings.

It is a merit-multiplying day during which karmic actions are multiplied 100 million. On this auspicious day, students are welcome to come to the temple to do their own individual practice like meditation on compassion, prostrations, mantra recitations, light offerings, etc. No group practice is scheduled.

Tara Practice, Potluck, & Center Cleaning

Sunday 7/26 starting at 10:00 am (PDT)
10am Tara Practice
12 noon Potluck Lunch
1pm Center Cleaning

Tara practice is recited for protection and to clear obstacles on our path. The benefits of Tara practice are clearly explained in the praises of 21 Taras prayer text that we chant.

Followed by a potluck lunch. Please bring some food to share like a vegetarian dish, fruit, or dessert, etc.

Center Cleaning
We request volunteers to join us for temple cleaning. Pabongka Rinpoche says in the book, “Liberation in the Palm of Your HandDirt is not the dirt on the ground… it is the dirt of attachment. Helping clean the center is not only a great opportunity to clean and beautify the temple but also to clear away one’s own self-grasping.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

Strive at first to meditate
Upon the sameness of yourself and others
In joy and sorrow all are equal
Thus be guardian of all, as of yourself
